Tips for New Drivers in the U.S.

Coming straight from a driving school and taking up your first car is exhilarating. It is not possible to explain the eagerness of a new driver, especially when the new driver is a teenager. He or she cannot wait to get the car started and off to go and to test the road with the car. However, the driver will forget many things and start acting at the spur of the moment. Some of these things are taught in the driving school while others are not, but the new driver is assumed to know. Therefore, I have compiled this list of tips that every new US driver should know.

Insurance

For a new driver to cruise in the streets and highways, they should make sure that the car is insured. It is compulsory to insure your car especially from third party liability. It is illegal not to insure your car and you can find yourself in jail when you have not insured your car as required by law.

Cost of Insurance

If you intend to start the insurance for your car, then you should know that the higher the performance of the car is, the more the premiums. Cars that are more expensive, fast, high performing, or expensive will be more costly when being insured.

Floating rules

Follow all rules including speed limits, lights, and zebra crossing. Never float the rules, there are cops waiting for such a chance to book you in. Do not think that no one is watching because the cops will be somewhere you cannot notice.

Pimping the car

Unless you know your neighborhood well enough, do not pimp up the car. Thieves and other people may catch their eye on the car. At the same time, it attracts higher insurance premiums than you would probably want when insuring.

Filling in insurance forms

It may be tempting to fill in incorrect data when applying for insurance. The motivation may be to get low premiums. However, it is not advisable because it forms the basis for the insurance company voiding the contract.

Driving

It is always important for drivers not to get too excited. Do not go trying to race any car on the highway. Most of the fast moving cars are built with that ability. The car you own has a safe speed that ensures that it is safe don’t faster than your car’s speed.

Different states different rules

You will be driving around America, which has different states. It is important to note that each state has differing rules. The rules may be similar, but some are different and enforced differently depending on the strictness of each state.

Know your car

Before driving you should learn all about your car. You should know how to identify the car. The chassis number, number plate, and memorize how it looks. It is important in situations that you are needed to identify your car; you can point it out immediately.

Parking

After driving, you shall always need to park the car. If it is for a long period of time, like a whole day, ensure that the car is parked under a shade. It may be inside a building, or garage. A car may lose tire pressure after parking in the sun. However, if you go to the supermarket, park at the designated areas only.
